Keynote by Núria Agell: From Orders of Magnitude to Linguistic Nuance: Managerial Insights and Applications |
|
short bio:
Núria Agell is a professor in the Department of Operations, Innovation and Data Sciences. She holds a degree in Mathematics (University of Barcelona, UB) and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from UPC-BarcelonaTech for a dissertation on artificial intelligence, specifically around qualitative reasoning modelling. She is an active member of the Catalan Association of Artificial Intelligence (ACIA) and the EURO Working Group on Multi-criteria Decision Aiding.
Her main research interests are in the development of artificial intelligence techniques and decision-making systems. In particular, she works on learning algorithms, qualitative and fuzzy reasoning, multi-criteria and group decision-making, recommending systems and consensus modelling. |
Invited talk by Vicent Costa: Qualitative Modeling and Explainable Artificial Intelligence: Applications to Art Painting Style Categorization and Quality of Life for People with Disability |
| short bio:
Vicent Costa is a tenured scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of the Spanish National Research Council (IIIA-CSIC), a substitute lecturer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (teaching subjects in the Bachelor's degrees in Artificial Intelligence and Philosophy), and a vocal member of the Catalan Association for Artificial Intelligence Board of Directors. With a bachelor's in Mathematics and a bachelor's in Philosophy, a master's in Pure and Applied Logic, and a PhD in Cognitive Science and Language, his interrelated research focuses on logics for artificial intelligence, the design of cognitive and explainable AI systems, especially those based on qualitative reasoning, and the study of ethical aspects of AI, including its uses and impacts in disability. His research has been published in several journals and book chapters, presented at international conferences, and has received various distinctions (e.g., the Best STAIRS-ECAI 2020 Paper Award). Previously, he conducted research at the Centro Singular de Investigación en Tecnoloxías Intelixentes (Spain) and the Bremen Spatial Cognition Center (Germany).
